Liberia: Jabez Mission Trip 2016
by Patsy McDonald
(Excerpt from The Bellringer Newsletter, March 2016)

Being part of a Mission Team is not an easy task in a country that is recovering from Civil War and the devastating Ebola virus. However, while we were there the people of Ganta, Liberia showed us nothing but welcoming love and gratefulness for the little things we were able to do for them. The children’s smiles more than make up for the inconvenient traveling and lack of American conveniences. The experience made me aware, again, of the wasted resources in America and just how much I take for granted. I do not need to worry about when I will eat again, if I will have fresh water to drink, if the electricity will run, the roads are good, and children have access to neighborhood schools. God has been very good to me. I only wish I could do more for those who do not have what I have.
Please keep the students, parents and staff of Jabez Elementary and Junior High School in your prayers.

Jabez Elementary & Junior High School and
Trauma Counseling Center

Jabez Elementary & Junior High School and Trauma Counseling Center is a project envisioned and coordinated by Rev. Jakes Voker, a former Pastor of Sherman Avenue UMC. The school is located in Ganta, city, Liberia, West Africa. The goal of the school is to break the cycle of violence caused by Liberia’s long Civil War and transform lives through Christ centered primary education. Sherman Avenue UMC has provided funding for the building of the school.

In 2014, one member travelled to Liberia on a mission trip to help complete the painting of the library, to begin an agricultural program and complete other tasks necessary to ensure the children of the school had a safe loving environment.

Another Mission Trip is planned for February 2016.
